Kraków’s operatic traditions date back over two centuries, even though the city didn’t get its own municipal opera until 1954. In the early years, Kraków Opera didn’t have its own venue, and the institution made quest appearances at stages across the city, such as the J. Słowacki Theatre. The breakthrough finally came ten years ago, with the opening of the brand-new building at 48 Lubicz Street. The new venue was inaugurated by a performance of Krzysztof Penderecki’s Devils of Loudun directed by Laco Adamik. Celebrating the anniversary, on 8 and 9 December the stage welcomes back artists of Kraków Opera who have spent the past decade tirelessly writing the institution’s modern history. The concert Opera 2008-2018 features excerpts from operas, operettas and concerts from the last ten years. We will hear arias and duets from Carmen, La bohème, La traviata, The Marriage of Figaro, Die Fledermaus and The Gypsy Baron.
