During the war, his life was saved by his accordion. In the years that followed, Leopold Kozłowski played the instrument in the deserted streets of Kazimierz, making the former Jewish quarter echo with music which was brutally torn from it with its inhabitants. Born in 1918, Poland’s last surviving pre-war klezmer promised he’d live to a hundred – and he kept his word! The artist celebrates his centenary with the concert Klezmer Birthday: Leopold Kozłowski and Friends.
