Dark hypnosis
A young man with an electric guitar during the new wave – it could have been a story like any other during the early 1980s. There was even a band (Desert Corbusier) and a self-released cassette. But Jozef Van Wissem quickly tired of the rock’n’roll lifestyle, moved from Europe to New York and learned to play lute, releasing his first solo album in 2000. Since then he has composed the score to the video game The Sims Medieval and a soundpiece to Hans Holbein the Younger’s painting The Ambassadors. He collaborates with Jim Jarmusch, and his soundtrack to the film Only Lovers Left Alive earned him an award at the Cannes Film Festival. On 25 January he will be extracting dark, mystical sounds out of his lute in the atmospheric cellar of Alchemia. (Bartosz Suchecki, „Karnet”)
