In a New Light

X is a letter of the alphabet, a Roman numeral and a handy symbol. In maths it can denote an unknown or a variable. The English artist Chris Corner uses it just this way in his project IAMX, blending music with visual arts. For a long time his work was steeped in gloom, with his lyrics dominated by themes of loneliness, addiction, decadence and death. Corner has also said that he has struggled with depression and insomnia which were killing his creativity. But you certainly shouldn’t be crossing him out! The musician stresses that he has moved to a new level, and he demonstrates it with the album Alive in New Light which he presents during an energy-filled performance at Kwadrat on 7 February.
