A Century of Friendship

Music and cinema have gone hand in hand since the earliest days of film. In the beginning sound played purely a practical role by drowning out the projector noise during silent film screenings, but its importance in how the films themselves were perceived grew over the years. On 3 October, ICE Kraków resounds with themes selected from throughout the history of Polish cinematography. The Rebel Babel Ensemble, founded by Łukasz “L.U.C” Rostowski, is joined by leading young Polish composers and producers to perform hits by Henryk Wars, Krzysztof Komeda’s soundtrack from Rosemary’s Baby and Jan A.P. Kaczmarek’s The Dreamer. The programme of the big band show 100 Years of Polish Film Music also features compositions by less well known artists such as Władysław Daniłowski and Aleksander Tansman. The concert accompanies the second Dźwigacze Kultury conference (3-4 October). During the debates and workshops, speakers and guests search for answers to important questions on the condition of contemporary culture. The meetings are held under the banner of community, participation and building. (Bartosz Suchecki, “Karnet”)
