Beata is a comic opera referred to as an operetta by the author himself, and as a musical comedy by later researchers. This one-act work premiered in 1972, four months before the composer's death. It was the last opera he completed.

Beata takes place in Switzerland, making the opera the composer's second work, after Paria, whose plot is set outside of Poland. The author of the libretto is Jan Chęciński – the creator who previously collaborated with Moniuszko on such operas as Verbum nobile, The Haunted Manor or the abovementioned Paria. The opera's plot revolves around the love affairs and physical ailments of the characters, but eventually concludes with a happy ending.
