4th St Mary’s Organ Festival

On summer evenings, under the star-studded ceiling of one of Kraków’s most beautiful churches, we can hear the St Mary’s Organ Festival. During the opening concert on 18 July, the instruments in the main and southern nave come alive under the skilled touch of Witold Zalewski, founder of the event and leading organist at Wawel Cathedral, with Sławomir Zubrzycki presenting the distinctive sounds of the viola organista built following Leonardo da Vinci’s designs. On 25 July, we will hear arias, preludes, sonatas and fugues performed by Willy Ippolito (organ), Anna Śliwa (violin) and Joanna Solecka (harpsichord). The festival continues until 29 August; next month we will hear organists Paweł Wróbel, Bartłomiej Banek, Andrew Reid and Filip Presseisen, joined by artists including the Kraków Reed Trio, the Preziosa Female Quartet, Ryszard Haba on percussion and the Kantorei Sankt Barbara choir.
