Celtic Spirit
Poetry by Keats and Yeats, dramatic soprano, the soothing sounds of the harp – sounds enchanting, doesn’t it? But the author had her work cut out before she could make the vision come true. Loreena McKennitt was not put off by setbacks, and founded her own label focusing on traditional music. And the hard work paid off: the Canadian artist’s fourth album The Visit gained support from Warner and reached six-times platinum status in her home country, while also enjoying popularity in the US and Brazil. Sadly, her artistic ambitions were put on hold in the face of a personal tragedy when her fiancé drowned in a boating accident. After a long period of mourning, the musician returned to the recording studio and the stage, and fans of her Celtic melodies welcomed her subsequent two albums with enthusiasm. On 27 March, the artist appears at ICE Kraków performing her earlier works alongside material from her latest album Lost Souls. (Bartosz Suchecki, “Karnet”)
