Meeting with American artist and essayist Jason Francisco who has been active in the Jewish arts scene in Krakow for many years, collaborating frequently with the Galicia Museum. He'll be reading poems in translation by Abraham Sutzkever, "the greatest poet of the Holocaust" according to the New York Times, and Polish writer Jerzy Ficowski. The readings will be accompanied by Francisco's own visual works. Afterwards, our guest will also read a piece he penned as a dialogue with American poet Li-Young Lee.

JASON FRANCISCO is an acclaimed artist and essayist. Bringing together documentary and conceptual art, his photoworks and writings focus on the complications of historical memory, and new directions in the art of witness. Much of his work concerns the inheritance of trauma, specifically concerning Jewish experience in eastern Europe. In addition, Francisco is the co-founder and co-director of FestivALT, a program of radical and experimental Jewish art based in Kraków, Poland. At Emory University, Francisco is an associate professor in the department of Film and Media Studies.
