Early music, Polish music, symphonic music, organ music, chamber music, contemporary music, operas, oratorios, music at dusk, on the royal route, in Kraków, in Biecz, in Nowy Sącz, in Stary Sącz… Events held in Kraków and the region are once again brought together under the banner Theatrum Musicum – a project prepared by Cracovian and Małopolska institutions, forming one of Europe’s largest classical music events. Held over the course of three months (2 June – 3 September), the 6th Theatrum Musicum brings together 15 partners and almost 100 concerts, with an online calendar of events including the Kraków Opera Summer Festival, the Sinfonietta Festival, summer concerts at the Kraków Philharmonic, the Festival of Polish Music, the ICE Classic cycle, Musical Barbican, Wawel at Dusk and Music on the Royal Route festivals and myriad other events throughout Kraków and Małopolska.

Each year the musical summer is opened by a different institution, and this year it’s the turn of the campaign’s founders and coordinators. During the Social Opening of Theatrum Musicum (7 June, St Catherine’s Church), Capella Cracoviensis under the baton of Jan Tomasz Adamus performs Britten’s Fanfare for St Edmundsbury and Vivaldi’s Concerto in D minor for two oboes, while the Kraków Community Choir composed of professional and amateur singers performs Bach’s cantata O Jesu Christ, meins Lebens Licht and Handel’s hymn Blessed Are They That Considereth the Poor.
