Look With Your Heart!
Beauty and the Beast, the French fairytale immortalised by the 18th-century novelist Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, is as popular as ever. The latest version is the 2017 Disney film with Emma Watson in the starring role. The Groteska Theatre presents a stage adaptation of this beautiful, moving story in a musical format. Compositions stylised on 18th-century music, dazzling puppets and stunning stage sets come together for a unique spectacle directed by Jerzy Jan Połoński.
In the era of the ubiquitous race for fairytales to present the best, greatest and most beautiful values – wisdom, kindness and inner beauty conquering all that is superficial, dishonest and false – they can serve as a guide for young and old viewers alike. “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye,” to quote the fox in Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s classic novel The Little Prince.
