Multiverses
The first concert of this year’s cycle World of Great Music features Stacey Kent – a truly global artist. She’s American, but she polished her skills as a jazz diva in London. She has a degree in comparative literature and speaks and sings in French and Portuguese in addition to her native English. Interestingly, Stacey ascribes her passion for French poetry to her Russian grandfather who grew up in France. She fell in love with Portuguese during her first visit to Brazil, and she promised her fans that she will speak their language by the time she returns. And of course she kept her promise!
Stacey Kent performs jazz standards, ballads by Serge Gainsbourg and bossa nova songs, but she is especially proud to sing tracks written especially for her by her saxophonist husband Jim Tomlison and none other than the Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro. Her style is elegant, subtle and sensuous.
