Nowa Huta is a highly unusual place. The numbers of its fans – neigh, aficionados – are growing by the minute. But do we really understand why? Let’s take a look at Kraków’s youngest district from the perspective of its residents and proponents. The creators of the project Alternative Guide to Nowa Huta – featuring ten walking routes and five lectures – reveal the district’s less obvious aspects. The time has now come to take stock of the project. The collective publication collated by Jarosław Klaś and published by the C.K. Norwid Cultural Centre is launched on 2 December. It offers a subjective look at Nowa Huta: “We join several authors on their journey through the easternmost district of Kraków, taking alternative routes, going against the grain and contradicting widely-accepted takes and ideas. The project and the resulting book are a guide through time and space, with people involved in the local community stepping up as narrators: activists, historians, artists, local residents, representatives of NGOs, entrepreneurs and bloggers.” The Alternative Guide is also aimed at tourists visiting Nowa Huta, with each section including a summary in English.
