Celebrating Collaborations
Colplay feat. Beyoncé, Calvin Harris feat. Rihanna, Sia feat. Sean Paul, DJ Snake feat. Justin Bieber – just a glance at last year’s greatest hits reveals that hardly anyone in pop works alone these days. On the other hand, we are all constantly competing for prizes, listeners, money, our five minutes of fame… Is there time in all this for cooperation, familiarity and friendly schemes in the music industry? Is it worth collaborating with labels or managers? Can big institutions help musicians at the thresholds of their careers? Is it better to come together? Does it leave room for independence?
The sixth event held under the banner Sounds of the City: Collaboration attempts to answer these questions. The topic of this year’s conference is broadly understood music collaboration – within bands, with businesses and between cities; international and interdisciplinary. On 11 and 12 November, we meet at the complex at 41 Krakowska Street. The Nowy Proxima Theatre, the Literacka Café and the Off Frame Art Gallery, all located in the same building, host over 20 discussion panels, workshops, lectures and presentations. We reach for the experiences of international experts – musicians, organisers, managers, journalists and publishers – including Jan Klata, Leszek Biolik, Piotr Metz, Iza Lach, Paweł Szamborski, Dariusz Makaruk, Jorgos Skolias, Krzysztof Trebunia-Tutka, Georges Perot, Krzysztof Grabowski and Dariusz Eckert.
The musical element of the conference will be a festival segment presenting independent local bands ready for collaboration. At clubs in Kazimierz and Podgórze we will hear Smoking Barrelz, Dziewczęta, RunForrest, Sonbird, rivers.real, Eluktrick, Bażant, Świderile, It’s July Already and Artykuły Rolne.
