WITH A PINCH OF SALT
Tricky moved to Berlin three years ago, and the relocation has clearly been good for him. Since then, he has been taking life with a pinch of salt – as we can hear on his latest album ununiform. The pioneer of trip-hop and co-founder of Massive Attack has clearly found peace and a creative vein, returning with a mature record, surprising with its note of internal harmony and sense of reconciliation. In fact, it’s the most consistent and melodic album since Maxinquaye. It also features several guests: after a few years’ break, we welcome the return of the gorgeous voices of Martina Topley-Bird and Francesca Belmonte. Tricky’s recent visit to Moscow has resulted in four tracks recorded alongside Russian rappers and producers. And of course there is plenty of good old Tricky himself in all his dusky, bitter glory… But not too much – the vast majority of the album is taken up by stunning harmonies. (AJ)
