Ines Doujak studied textiles at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, but she soon swapped traditional crafts for fine art. Her interests focus around the human body; the Austrian artist regards it as a cultural construct and the intertwining of ideologies and social and political spheres. The exhibition Ines Doujak. Masterless Voices at the Bunkier Sztuki gallery presents collages from the cycle Skins, made using medical books from the turn of the 20th century. The author constructs “interspecies creatures”, combining human bodies with those of plants and animals. She believes that skin diseases and rare medical conditions bring us closer to the natural world of fauna and flora. Doujak is also fascinated by poisonous and hallucinogenic plants which she uses to push the boundaries of her body and mind. Her cycle Not Dressed for Conquering features works playing with the concepts of high and low art. The artist also examines fashion as a global business and investigates its roots. During the opening of the exhibition, Doujak presents an introductory performance and showcases clothes of her own design featuring distinctive Polish fabrics. (dd)
