International Sfogato Music & Arts Festival is the only regular festival event in Kraków inspired purely by the music and creative personality of Fryderyk Chopin. It is symbolized by the name of the event – “sfogato”, the Italian word used for the first time by Fryderyk Chopin as a musical term to describe one of the episodes of his Barcarolle in F sharp major Op. 60.
This year's festival will be inaugurated by a concert Chopin soirée (28 September, 6pm, Villa Decius). The programme of the evening will include the works of Chopin and other composers for piano duo (four hands), violin and piano duo and a voice. Performing will be Iga Yamaguchi Duo: Ayumi Iga and Masatoshi Yamaguchi, Polanski Duo: Marek Polański (violin) and Marta Polańska (piano), Sergei Sultanov (piano) and Fr. Tomasz Jarosz (baritone).
The festival, lasting until 6 December, also includes: violin and organ concert by Marek Polański and Michał Białko (22 October, 6:45pm, St Adalbert's Church), piano workshop co-organised by the piano portal MartAtelier.co, International Sfogato Ringtone & Signal Composers Competition and the conference: Music – Art – Media led by Prof. Helena Wrona-Polańska.
