The Kraków Philharmonic summer concerts at the Bishop Erazm Ciołek Palace present unusual lineups of chamber musicians and composers rarely performed during regular concerts. The cycle opens on 5 July with classical elegance during an evening of arias and duets from Mozart’s operas (if là ci darem la mano, everything will be tranquillo e placido!). On 12 July, the Musica Graziosa trio takes us on a fantastic journey with the concert Music in the Mirror of Time, resounding with works by composers such as Jacques Ibert, Bohuslav Martinů and Johann Joachim Quantz. On 19 July, Agnieszka Kaczmarek-Bialic (harp) and Mariusz Pędziałek (oboe) perform music by French, Italian and Spanish composers and Witold Lutosławski, while on 26 July we will hear sonatas for double bass and basso continuo with Włodzimierz Gazdeczka on double bass and Paulina Tkaczyk on harpsichord. On 2 August, we will hear a bassoon quartet presenting psychedelic dance numbers, including the stunning March to the Scaffold from Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique. On 9 August, we will immerse ourselves in music for wind instruments with the Kraków Philharmonic Reed Trio presenting a programme featuring Mozart’s Divertimento in B major KV 229 and contemporary compositions. 16 August flies the stars and stripes banner: we will hear works by Gershwin and Bernstein arranged for a string quartet, as well as Dvořák’s “American” String Quartet in F major. 23 August also features string instruments and early music compositions: a viol ensemble presents works dating from between the 16th and 18th centuries, mainly penned by English composers. The final concert of the cycle (30 August) centres around piano music, once again with string accompaniment. The artists appear as a piano quartet and quintet with works by Mozart, Noskowski and Nowakowski.
