The 10th Wawel at Dusk Festival once again captivates audiences with fabulous music at the beautiful setting, resounding at the courtyards of Wawel Castle on Saturdays throughout the summer holidays. The marathon of young pianists at the arcaded courtyard is the perfect warm-up for the gala opening in the evening: Marcin Koziak performs Chopin’s Andante spianato et Grande polonaise brillante and Grieg’s Piano Concerto, while the CORda Cracovia Orchestra under the baton of Maciej Tworek premieres Wojciech Michno’s Et lux in tenebris lucet – the sixth piece commissioned especially for the festival. Subsequent concerts move to the smaller Stefan Batory courtyard where we will hear polonaises for harpsichord by Ogiński and Chopin, arias and duets from operas, operettas and musicals, music by Wieniawski and Szymanowski for violin and piano and works by Schubert, Moszkowski and Szymanowski performed by a family trio of Daniel Stabrawa (concertmaster at the Berlin Philharmonic), his violinist daughter Maria Zofia, and his pianist wife Elżbieta. We will welcome the beginning of August again at the Arcaded Courtyard – with the extraordinary piano recital by Alexander Gavrylyuk. And during the grand finale we will hear the laureate of the 16th Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition – Yulianna Avdeeva accompanied by the CORda Cracovia Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Łukasz Borowicz. The programme features two piano concertos: Chopin’s in F minor and Mozart’s in B flat major KV 595. (Barbara Skowrońska)
