On 3 June, the Małopolska Art Garden presents The Great Flood – a contemporary montage of archival fragments of silent cinema documenting the devastating Mississippi flood of 1927, which resulted in a huge migration of African Americans to cities in the northern US, mainly Chicago. As well as the obvious social and economic consequences, the disaster also left a powerful mark on culture: the flood drove the development of blues and jazz. The film is the result of a collaboration between the filmmaker and multimedia artist Bill Morrison and the guitarist and composer Bill Frisell. The screening, held as part of the Krakow Film Festival in December, also heralds the 18th Silent Film Festival with the leading theme of Elements.
