15th Salt Festival

There will be workshops in salt extraction, rope braiding, pottery, papermaking, calligraphy, basket weaving, ironwork, coopering, carving in salt, woodcutting, using a printing press, typesetting, screen printing, candle making… All this in the beautiful setting of the Saltworks Castle, accompanied by live music, competitions, prize draws and an archaeological dig. The Kraków Saltworks Museum Wieliczka hosts a Salt Festival on 11 June, opening with a march of the Representative Brass Band of the Wieliczka Salt Mine from the Daniłowicza shaft along the Jana Pawła II Avenue to the castle courtyard. This year’s event focuses on the history of the salt mine and salt transport, so many of the elements focus around the Vistula which served as a major trade route.
