According to the organisers, the latest temporary MOCAK exhibition from the cycle presenting artists’ takes on various spheres of social function will be different to all others.

Each of the six instalments presented so far focused on a single real-life issue: we have explored art dealing with history, sport, economy, gender, medicine and even crime. This time, the curators Delfina Jałowik, Monika Kozioł and Maria Anna Potocka take a closer look at “art in art”. Grand masterpieces, depictions of famous people, distinctive games of composition and spectacular scandals associated with art come together to form a collection of motifs etched in public imagination. How and why do artists reach for this “great collection of recognisable images”?

The exhibition Art in Art shows us how putting existing artworks and artistic gestures in fresh contexts gives them a new life and new meanings, and how they are used by other artists to comment on current problems and topics. We will see works by over sixty contemporary artists from around the globe. The authors reach for art created by others for a range of reasons; the presentation attempts to sketch an “image of a subtle game of meaning which tackles different questions”, including those covered by earlier instalments of the cycle – explain the curators.
