Conducting orchestras is in his blood. His father Vladimir was a conductor and composer, and he also inherits the profession from his maternal grandfather – David Blok, lead conductor of Russian films during the first decades of sound cinema. The maestro of the baton Mikhail Yurovsky works with many acclaimed orchestras in Germany and Austria and frequently tours with celebrated Scandinavian ensembles. Luckily for us, his busy concert schedule brings him to Poland: he is the first guest conductor of the Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus.

He leads the young ensemble, comprising talented students and graduates from music schools, all aged 30 or under, on 29 April. The Kraków Philharmonic resounds with Schumann’s overture to Manfred and Piano Concerto in A minor (featuring Florian Uhlig on piano) and Richard Strauss’ tone poem Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

And here’s a riddle for you: can you guess the professions of Yurovsky’s two sonsJ? (Barbara Skowrońska)

Florian Uhlig  piano
Roman Perucki  organ
Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus
Michaił Jurowski – conductor

Robert Schumann Manfred Op. 115 (overture)
Robert Schumann Piano Concerto in A minor Op. 54
Richard Strauss Also sprach Zarathustra Op. 30
