Listening to Liszt
Thanks to in-depth philosophy of the piano, she brings together aesthetic extremes – as befits a Liszt expert. Her music is emotional and precise, poetic and filled with virtuosity. Her latest solo album, Metanoia, has been hailed by the critic Maciej Chiżyński as “one of the finest albums of Liszt’s music of our era”. Following a series of recitals in Paris, Brussels and her native Switzerland, Beatrice Berrut comes to Kraków to perform alongside the Kraków Philharmonic Orchestra on 24 and 25 February.
The artists are faced with quite a challenge: performing Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2, filled with nuance and subtle correlations and requiring the soloist and orchestra to work closely together. Another ambitious point in the programme is Richard Strauss’ Burlesque – a diabolically difficult work crowning the composer’s youthful temperament and inspiration with Liszt. The concert is overseen by Maestro Charles Olivieri-Munroe.
