Oh, These Sleepless Nights…
What if were to pull an all-nighter for poetry? Autumn is on its way, the days are getting shorter – let’s go crazy! The 7th Poetry Night (7/8 October) is dedicated to one of Poland’s greatest artists – the author, dramatist, poet, stage designer, painter and drawer Stanisław Wyspiański. The extensive programme features numerous meetings, slams and poetry duels, poetry in city spaces, performances, concerts and spectacles.
An important point in the programme is the outdoor play on the Podgórski Square prepared specially for the occasion by the KTO Theatre with a script by Bronisław Maj and Jerzy Zoń, based on Wyspiański’s acclaimed drama The Wedding. At the Main Market Square, the Hothaus Theatre presents a poetry spectacle, while the windows of the former railway station building display shadow puppets in the Otwarty Theatre show Shadows of Stanisław Wyspiański’s “The Wedding”.
Is poetry still necessary in today’s world? Do we really need poets? Let’s find out!(Barbara Zając, "Karnet" magazine)
