At the threshold of spring, Kraków hosts a week of sustainable fashion. Presentations of environmentally-friendly collections are accompanied by exhibitions, film screenings, lectures, workshops and a debate on the fashion industry’s social responsibility.

Organised by the Cracow School of Art and Fashion Design, the Cracow Fashion Week (18-26 March) is held under the banner “Fashion & Ecology”. The event is partnered with organisations promoting corporate social responsibility: Foundation to Support Animal Protection (The PETA Foundation), Fashion Revolution (known for the question “Who made my clothes?”) and the Buy Responsibly Foundation, coordinating the Clean Clothes campaign in Poland.

We kick off on 18 March with the finale and gala of the Cracow Fashion Awards; the ICE Kraków Congress Centre presents graduation collections by the school’s students alongside designs by guests from Poland, Sweden, Spain and Ukraine. Jury members include Natasha Pavluchenko, the MMC duo Ilona Majer & Rafał Michalak, Dorota Wróblewska, Anna Jatczak, Ola Bajer and Gosia Sobiczewska. During the gala, Pat Guzik, lecturer at the school, presents her natural collection which won the international EcoChic Design Award in Hong Kong for emerging designers implementing the ideas of sustainable fashion.

Throughout the week, participants can attend presentations, vernissages, workshops and lectures and listen to a debate on the social responsibility of the fashion industry, attended by representatives of partner organisations and young designers. Pod Baranami Cinema presents films focusing on animal rights and business ethics in the context of fashion: The PETA Foundation screens the Norwegian documentary Inside Fur awarded at film festivals, while Fashion Revolution shows the American documentary The True Cost.

The cherry on the cake will be the gala finale No Waste Show at the Zabłocie Studio (25 March), during which design students present their recycled and upcycled collections created under the artistic guidance of Pat Guzik. (Dorota Dziunikowska, “Karnet” monthly)
