The Show Must Go On

Each festival reminds us of the outstanding jazzmen who are no longer with us. This year, the heavenly pageant was joined by the Cracovian saxophonist Janusz Muniak, but the event shows that music is eternal. The 61st Kraków All Souls “Zaduszki” Jazz Festival (31 October – 7 November) opens with the photo exhibition We Remember. During the opening at the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre we will hear the Bartosz Dworak Quartet and the Zbigniew Namysłowski Quintet. On 2 November, ICE Kraków hosts a spectacular performance by Candy Dulfer. The Dutch saxophonist skilfully intertwines the worlds of jazz and pop culture, having worked with Prince, Eurythmics and Dave Stewart, Pink Floyd and Van Morrison. On 3 November, Kraków is visited by Joey DeFrancesco for the first time. The master of the Hammond organ performs with his trio at the Manggha Museum. The same day, Piwnica Pod Baranami hosts the Olsen Quartet bringing together stars of Polish jazz: Vladislav “Adzik” Sendecki and Andrzej Olejniczak. Festival events will also be held in Lanckorona, Trzebinia and Wieliczka, where we especially recommend the concert at the Salt Mine. On 4 November, the salty caverns hosts a premiere performance of the re-released Modern Pentathlon by Laboratorium. The album, first released 40 years ago, will be performed in full by musicians from the legendary ensemble with guests Krzesimir Dębski and Rasm Al-Mashan. (Artur Jackowski, "Karnet" magazine)
