“May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds,” wrote the American essayist Edward Abbey. The 14th Kraków Mountain Festival, held at the Kraków University of Economics, brings together everyone for whom these words resonate: mountaineers, lovers of climbing and hiking, and all those seeking a challenge.
Let’s Go Climbing
The 14th Kraków Mountain Festival (2-4 December, UEK) welcomes wads for whom guppy, choss and mantelshelf are everyday lingo as well as mere mortals who simply love the mountains and mountaineering films. As usual, the programme features slide shows, workshops and courses, and – first and foremost – the best mountain cinema from around the world. As part of the International Film Competition and the Polish Film Competition we will see a premiere of A Song of Tomorrow (dir. Frank Kretschmann) about a group of climbers exploring the virgin Qingfeng valley in China and Alastair Lee’s documentary Blockheads examining the phenomenon of bouldering in the UK. The unquestioned queen of this year’s event will be the legendary American climber Lynn Hill, while the younger generation is represented by Marc-André Leclerc and Tim Emmet. And of course don’t miss the fair of books and outdoor clothing and kit. Meanwhile, in spring… let’s go climbing! :)
