Cricoteka – Centre for the Documentation of the Art of Tadeusz Kantor presents the works by the founder of Cricot 2 Theatre and his influence on modern art, as well as searching for sources of the inspiration which shaped him. The exhibition Schlemmer | Kantor (from 14 October) introduces analogies between the works by Kantor and Oskar Schlemmer (1888-1943), painter and reformer of theatre associated with Bauhaus. The latter’s acclaimed Triadic Ballet is one of the most important experiments with European dance from the first half of the 20th century; it made a huge impact on contemporary dance when it premiered in 1923. Leading Bauhaus theatre workshop between 1923 and 1929, Schlemmer defined the style and direction of this famous art school. His experiments changed the perception of actors’ bodies on stage. They were an important reference for Tadeusz Kantor, especially his early works during the 1930s and 1940s, but also later when he recalled them through dialogue or even through denial. The Cricoteka exhibition has been prepared to coincide with the centenary of Schlemmer’s first choreographic arrangements. (dd, "Karnet" monthly)
