Don’t get taken in with mean names and the badge of a somewhat convivial instrument. The accordion is an extraordinary, fascinating, multidimensional instrument, and it can be found in a variety of genres and styles, so find out more during the 3rd Kraków Accordion Festival. We start at the Małopolska Garden of Arts with Folk&Roll performed by Zagan Acoustic and jazz/folk arrangements of works by Chopin by the vocal and accordion duo of Grażyna Auguścik and Jarosław Bester. Classical music fills the Church of St Martin, from the Accordion Portrait of Johann Sebastian Bach (Duo Accosphere and the Airis Quartet) to the contemporary Fa caldo by Wojciech Widłak for organ and two accordions. Alchemia hosts a folk and ethno evening with the Magda Brudzińska Trio and the Labyrinth quartet from Ukraine. Accordion at the movies? The ARS cinema presents Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid with a live accordion accompaniment. To finish, the festival’s protagonist appears alongside electronic instruments, gongs, percussion, dance and video art: the performance Music of the Spheres at Cricoteka is directed by the originator of this celebration of the accordion Bożena Boba-Dyga.
