Kino Latino
The average European mainly associates Venezuela with beautiful beaches, many winners of the Miss World title and a major economic crisis. And although this “little Venice” of Latin America is indeed struggling with financial problems, the country’s cinematography is thriving, as shown by the Venezuelan Film Festival (8-13 October) coming to Kino Pod Baranami for the first time. We will see how Venezuelan filmmakers tackle the myth of The Liberator – the legendary leader Simón Bolívar – and discover The Mystery of the Lagoons and the fascinating traditions of people inhabiting faraway corners of Venezuela’s Andes. We’ll learn about the everyday lives of the country’s residents (Paper, Scissors, Stone) and the cultural phenomenon of the Miss World competition (3 Beauties). Beauty standards can test the love between a mother and her son, as we’ll see in Pelo Malo. Films My Straight Son, Longest Distance and The House of the End of Times reveal various complex human relationships. And there will also be concerts, workshops and meetings with filmmakers. Hasta la vista!
