One of the best opera singers in the world, German soprano Diana Damrau, will perform in Krakow on the 24th of May 2017. She has taken the halls of the Vienna Opera, the Metropolitan Opera and Covent Garden Theatre by storm, and now we will finally see her at the ICE Kraków Congress Centre. Tickets for the event are already on sale.

“I’m certain that Diana Damrau will delight us just as she has audiences around the world”, said Izabela Helbin, director of the Krakow Festival Office, the operator of the ICE Kraków Congress Centre. “We are proud that we can host such excellent sopranos as Edita Gruberová and Diana Damrau in Krakow as part of the ICE Classic cycle. These artists share an incredible fluency and skill in using their voice. Both women are the most famous and pure coloratura sopranos of their generations. Their performances are events that no opera lover can miss”, Helbin added.

Diana Damrau is yet another – after Aleksandra Kurzak and Edita Gruberová – world-class soprano who will visit the capital of Małopolska at the invitation of the City of Krakow and the Krakow Festival Office. The artists are connected by the fact that they have appeared on the most famous opera stages, such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the awe they inevitably evoke among audiences and critics with their talent and skill. The international press has described both Diana Damrau’s and Edita Gruberová’s performances at La Scala as beautiful and emotional spectacles.

Diana Damrau and Edita Gruberová also share a passion for the most difficult roles and an incredible vocal virtuosity in bel canto. Both divas often perform in recitals in which this vocal technique is particularly showcased. Diana Damrau has appeared with such a repertoire in Vienna Madrid, Paris and Milan. The Bavarian soprano is best known for her performances in The Magic Flute, where she plays the Queen of the Night – considered one of the most difficult opera roles. Edita Gruberová has also successfully taken on this challenging role many times.

Diana Damrau was dubbed “one of the best coloratura sopranos in the world” by The New York Sun. With her exceptional voice and captivating presence, she has fascinated audiences for two decades. In 2014, she was awarded the “Best Female Singer” title at the International Opera Awards. Her recordings are released by the most prestigious labels – Erato Records and Deutsche Grammophon.

The programme of the Krakow concert, which will also be the inauguration of the new Theatrum Musicum 2017 season, will include arias from operas by Giacomo Meyerbeer, Giuseppe Verdi and Vincenzo Bellini, with which Diana Damrau has enchanted listeners around the world.

Finally, it’s Krakow’s turn! On the 24th of May, everyone who attends the ICE Classic: Diana Damrau concert will be able to find out the soprano’s class for themselves. The artist will be accompanied by French bass-baritone Nicolas Testé and the PKF Prague Philharmonia orchestra under the direction of the Dallas Opera director, Emmanuel Villaume.

The concert is hosted by the City of Krakow and the Krakow Festival Office.
