Kraków hosts the tenth Philosophical Film Festival: the only event anywhere in the world held under the motto of philosophical cinematography. The theme of this year’s anniversary festival is Love. But forget rom-coms and mawkish Hollywood melodramas: the event showcases unusual and unexpected stories of love in films from all corners of the globe.
There will also be discussion panels, exhibitions and meetings with people from the worlds of culture and science, including Prof. Jerzy Vetulani. The talk with the eminent neurobiologist will be preceded by a screening of Agnieszka Piotrowska’s She Married the Eiffel Tower. The document focuses on objectophilia, an unusual sexual orientation almost exclusive to women.
The event’s special guest will be Mieke Bal, the Dutch audiovisual artist and theorist of culture. The festival hosts the world premiere of her latest experimental film Reasonable Doubt, based on the 17th-century correspondence between René Descartes and Queen Christina of Sweden. The Museum of the History of Photography hosts an exhibition of the same title. Ready to learn about the philosophy of love? (Justyna Skalska, Karnet magazine)
